Biography synopsis
In 1853 Elise L'Heureux and her husband Jules Isaie Livernois opened a photography studio out of the home of L'Heureux's parents. They soon ran three studios and specialized in portraits, with L'Heureux winning acclaim for her portraits of children. When Livernois died in 1865, L'Heureux took over the business, and a year later entered into a partnership with her son-in-law Louis Bienvenu. The Livernois & Bienvenu photography studio expanded to include calling cards and landscapes, many of which are now owned by the Musée Nationale des Beaux-arts du Québec. The partnership dissolved in 1873 when L'Heureux's son Jules Ernest Livernois took over the family business.
