- Biography synopsis
- Akenesie Novalinga (Agnes Novalinga, Akinisie Novalinga, Timangia Novalinga, Sivuarapi Novalinga) was married to Johnny Pov, a community leader in Puvirnituq, formerly Povungnituk. Pov and Novalinga became some of the first members of the Povungnituk Cooperative when it opened in 1961, following the success of the Cape Dorset print shop. The couple took up printmaking at the same time, with Novalinga continuing after the death of her husband in 1978. Novalinga drew what she knew or had seen and her drawings were often made into prints. Her work was included in multiple Povungnituk Annual Print Collections, as well as in exhibits in San Francisco and Seattle, and some of her work is owned by the Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec. Novalinga was also known for her ability at making traditional garments and was involved in the production of a National Film Board of Canada short film based on the Inuit legend of Lumaaq in 1975.
