- Biography synopsis
- Laubental and her husband, architect Charles Launbental, immigrated to Edmonton in the spring of 1952. Before arriving in Canada, Laubental had apprenticed for two years in an Italian workshop and spent six years working alongside skilled German potter, Jan Bontjes van Beek. In 1952, she taught at the Edmonton Potters Guild and later at the Banff School of Fine Arts, as well as the Department of Fine Arts at the University of Alberta Extension Program (1955-1960). Many St. Albert artists that honed their craft under Laubental's tutelage are still active members of the St. Albert Potters Guild. She was recognized for moving the development of handicrafts to modernism at the same time retaining simplicity and natural imagery. Her work has been exhibited in Canada, the United States, and Europe.
