- Biography synopsis
- Cynthia Chalk is best known for her prize-winning nature photography. As an active member of the Montreal Camera Club (MCC), Chalk participated in numerous national and international photography salons. She gave presentations, offered many workshops and sat on several selection committees. Furthermore, she served as the club's Nature Division Chairman from 1964-67 and was co-editor of the MCC's newsletter "Cameragram." For her achievements and dedication to the club, Chalk was awarded both the titles of Fellow and Life Member of the MCC. In addition to her engagement with the MCC, Chalk held executive positions with the National Association for Photographic Arts (NAPA) and the Photographic Society of America (PSA). Her work was featured in publications such as "Outdoors Canada," in the National Film Board's "Photography 75"- an exhibit dedicated to female photographers - and in the National Collection of Nature Photographs. Chalk's concern for nature also extended to the practical realm, and she was involved with the investigations concerning the algae crisis resulting from the pollution of Missisquoi Bay in the 1990s.
