Biography synopsis
After obtaining a B.A. and B.Ed. from the University of Saskatchewan, Adeline Rockett graduated with a Masters in Art Education from the University of Alberta. Other art workshops were undertaken at the Banff School of Fine Arts, followed by gallery visits in London, Paris, Madrid, and Barcelona to complement her studies. In the 1980s, Rockett also completed gallery studies in New York City and at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. Known for her watercolours, she focused on light and forms, patterns in landscapes, traveling across Canada as well as the Arctic she produced a series – “Arctic: Form and Pattern,” “Top of the World,” “North and South of 60,” “A Brush with Ice” and “Southward Drift.” She was among twenty-five Canadian watercolorists chosen to represent Canada in the show “International Waters,” which toured Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom from 1991 to 1993. Subsequently her work was included in a Juried Exchange Millennium Exhibition sponsored by the Mexican National Museum of Watercolor and the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolor. In addition to participating in numerous group and traveling exhibitions she has had over forty solo shows. Her work is included in over seventy corporate and public collections including the Art Gallery of Alberta. She won the Millennium Art Competition sponsored by the Soil Conservation Council of Canada and the Canada Millennium Partnership Program in 2000. The "Adeline Rockett Award" is granted by the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour.
