Naissance
Granby, Quebec, 1870
Décès
Vancouver, British Columbia, 1935
Notice biographique
Statira Elizabeth Frame was a pioneering modernist, noted for the use of colour in her paintings. She was largely self-taught, but absorbed new ideas about post-impressionism from her friend, Emily Carr. Frame studied under Robert Henri in New York and with Armin Hansen in Monterey, California. After her studies in California, Frame began to introduce mauves, pinks and brighter colours to her largely subdued palette. Her work deals with everyday subjects that are infused with new life from her brushwork and bold colours. She exhibited her work throughout Canada, as well as the Seattle Art Museum. She showed one painting at the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts in 1926, and three paintings in 1934 at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts Spring Exhibition.
